Lead life sciences partner for Scale Finance. Named a ‘Top CFO’ in the Triangle by Business Leader Media in 2010; named a finalist for the Triangle Business Journal’s ‘CFO of the Year’ in 2012
  • Biosignia, Inc., Durham, NC: Executive VP & CFO, Director (March 1998 – January 2008)—Served as an integral part of the executive management team during the entrepreneurial formation, research and development, product development and validation, and initial commercialization cycles of this healthcare information technology company
    • Personally guided the company through its development stage capital formation process; led the effort and took primary responsibility for numerous rounds of capital formation, securing investment capital in excess of $47 million
    • Played a central role in the company’s strategic development, serving as the principal negotiator in its relationships with key strategic partners; assumed lead role in development of deal structures and contract terms for major customer relationships
  • TLC Management Corp., Rocky Mount, NC: Co-founder, President & CEO (1992 – 1997)—Provided specialized consulting services to multiple clients, including closing and post-closing assistance with a $48 million M&A transaction
  • First Carolina Communications, Inc., Rocky Mount, NC: VP of Finance & CFO (August 1986 – November 1991)—Served as an integral part of a five man management team in an entrepreneurial, transaction intensive environment with this management company, specializing in the development and operation of cable TV systems and outdoor advertising companies
    • Successfully guided the company through the registration and filing process for an initial public offering of debt securities (underwritten by Morgan Stanley)
    • During tenure, the company consummated transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, and financings, which aggregated in excess of $1 billion
  • Price Waterhouse, Birmingham, Alabama and Charlotte, North Carolina—Senior Audit Manager, Audit Manager, Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant (July 1974 – July 1986)
    • Served audit clients (public and private) in a variety of industries including manufacturing, real estate, construction, financial services, non-profit, retail, wholesale distribution, aerospace engineering, and mergers and acquisitions
    • Served as a frequent instructor in firm-sponsored continuing education programs for professional staff
  • Education:BS in Accounting and Finance—Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama, Spring 1974. Graduated with “High Honors”, received multiple “Dean’s List” designations; inducted into accounting honorary society
